Through the Mountains

This painting depicts a mountainous landscape— the place where my grandma grew up, Rocky Boy, Montana. My grandma raised me. I was always with her. I was a grandma’s girl. I spent a summer with her when she lived in Rocky Boy, and we stayed home most of the time because we did not have a vehicle to get around. I will always hold those memories and moments close to my heart. The threads and paper cover the mountains. On the kozo paper, the small printed text contains stories/memories of my grandma and me. I purposely printed the stories small and on long strips of paper so viewers could interact with the piece, such as moving around the painting to read the text.
